Dance

Lyrics

Nobody told me I could feel alone in a room full of people
Screaming inside my soul
Why can’t they see? Why won’t they listen?
And why am I responsible for how they feel
And what they know?

You danced with me when I was by myself
When I had no hand to hold
Love can only happen
When you give someone a chance
It’s because of you I’m not afraid to dance

You took my hand, you didn’t blink
You were there for me, you helped me grow
Why should we be sad? Why should we listen
To everyone that doesn’t like the way we feel
And what we know?

You danced with me when I was by myself
When I had no hand to hold
Love can only happen
When you give someone a chance
It’s because of you I’m not afraid to dance

No one can stop us now
Let us dance, let us dance, let us dance
No one can stop us now
Let us dance, let us dance, let us dance

You danced with me when I was by myself
When I had no hand to hold
Love can only happen
When you give someone a chance
It’s because of you I’m not afraid to dance

You danced with me when I was by myself
When I had no hand to hold
Love can only happen
When you give someone a chance
It’s because of you I’m not afraid to dance

About the song

This song is inspired by my aunt, Anne, and our dance on my wedding day. When I started this song, I began thinking about the energy and excitement of that day and the people we were lucky enough to share it with. I want this song to be a celebration of love, unity, and acceptance, because that was what I was feeling from everyone there that day. Anne and my uncle Barry are very special to me. As I mentioned when talking about High, we have all spent so much time together over the years and have a very close family, even though we may be apart for extended periods. I really want the lyrics to this song to speak for themselves, but when you see someone being ignored or put down or rejected, take their hand and tell them it will be ok and that they are loved. That is a gift I will never forget receiving.
