High

Lyrics

When we were young
We were different but we always had fun
As time moved on
We were far apart but never alone

When you cried
I said everything would be alright
When I was hurt, you said it too

I wish I could touch the sky
And make it look easy like you do
On the list of who understands me
No one can reach as high as you

You ran so much
It was hard but I could always catch up
You saw who I am
When others turned away you loved me instead

When you cried
I said everything would be alright
When I was hurt, you said it too

I wish I could touch the sky
And make it look easy like you do
On the list of who understands me
No one can reach as high as you

When you cried
I said everything would be alright
When I was hurt, you said it too

I wish I could touch the sky
And make it look easy like you do
On the list of who understands me
No one can reach as high as you

About the song

It's funny how a person or small group of people can know so much about you and your nature, your views of the world, your likes and dislikes, all without ever really having to talk about it. My brother and I are seven years apart in age, but that did not stop us from being close growing up. I remember praying every night that I could have a little brother. When Zach was on the way, I was sure it would be him, and of course it was. I am so proud of who Zach is and even though he is much taller than I am, I still see him as a little kid I'm supposed to take care of in many ways, not that he needs it. I am thankful for our relationship and our shared experiences, which have made us who we are. I had the most fun writing this song because all the thoughts surrounding it are happy. I also think about Dan, Dave, Mallory, Amelia, and Madelyn and all the time we have spent together over the years. Even if we don't get to see each other as much as we used to, we keep in touch, and when we are together, it's like we never left. Someday we will be with Dave again too.
