You

Lyrics

Without You I wouldn’t be here
Or know all the things I know
And every time I tried to stand up
There’d be no hand to hold
You’re the one that really loves me
Even when I fall
I know If I didn’t have you
I’d have nothing at all

It’s You
It’s You

Who’s the one that showed me
All the things that I can be
Ands who’s the one that taught me
How much life can mean
And even when I get lost
You remind me of the truth
That love is everlasting
And my heart’s always with you

It’s You
It’s You

When life gets dark and I’m far from home
I feel you there with your arms wide open

It’s You
It’s You

Everything I am is everything You are
Everything You are is an open heart
With an open heart You do all You can
To embrace and love everything I am

About the song

This was the first song I wrote, recorded, and finished, and is really what got me started in this whole process. I remember wondering if I could do one song and now there is an album’s worth of material (and more). It was April when quarantine had just started, everyone was working from home, I was only seeing Richard and my dog, and had not seen anyone else in person for weeks. Mother’s Day was also fast approaching and I was trying to decide the best way to celebrate. I thought it would be a good time to experiment with actually putting words to paper and recording something meaningful. The melodies and lyrics for this song poured out of me in about 20 minutes. It was easy to write about someone who has given me everything. On Mother’s Day, I put a tv in the back of my car, drove to my parents’ house and texted them to come outside. I opened my trunk to reveal the tv playing a lyrics video of the song with pictures from throughout our lives. It was a lot. It was emotional to let go of a song and to share it with the person who really gave me my love for music. I also made a second video with this song for my grandmother and stopped by to share with her too. I know not all Mother’s are the same and I feel lucky to have been raised by the mother and grandmothers I get to call mine. This song is a celebration of motherhood.
